On Sunday, March 10, 44 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 290 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 1 person has been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

27 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 foreigners with forged documents were detected

At the Grebņeva Border Control Point, one citizen of Azerbaijan entered Latvia, who presented to border guards a forged Azerbaijani vehicle registration certificate, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings. The person was confined to a place of the State Police to be held in temporary detention. While at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point a citizen of Comoros, who presented to border guards a forged French identity card, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 16 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to eight citizens of Moldova, one – of Ukraine, two – of Belarus and one – of Great Britain as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay, to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document and to two citizens of Moldova due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Canada was detected at the Terehova Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 persons – one citizen of India and one – of Syria.


Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, three – of Moldova, two – of Kirgizstan, one – of Latvia, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Kazakhstan and one – of Uzbekistan.
