On Sunday, February 18, officials of the State Border Guard detected 9 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border by persons, while a total 14 persons have been stopped from illegally crossing the state border during this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 30 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

12 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 2 foreigners with forged documents were detected

At the Terehova Border Control Point one citizen of Kirgizstan, who presented to border guards a forged Poland roadworthiness test for truck trailer, was detected; as well as one citizen of Uzbekistan, who presented to border guards forged Uzbekistan roadworthiness tests for truck and truck trailer, was detected. The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • 2 wanted persons were detained

At the Terehova Border Control Point, one citizen of Russia leaving Latvia, who is wanted by the Customs Police, as well as at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for Edinburg, who is wanted by the Police, were detected. The persons were detained and handed over to officials of the Customs Police and the State Police respectively.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 3 foreigners

at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Moldova was detected at the Terehova Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia departing for Cyprus without valid travel document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – two citizens of Lithuania, one - of India one – of Democratic Republic of Congo and one – of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Latvia, three - of Belarus, two - of Moldova, one – of Russia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Romania, one – of Spain and one – of Ukraine.
