On Monday, February 19, officials of the State Border Guard detected 6 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border by persons, while a total 20 persons have been stopped from illegally crossing the state border during this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 35 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

16 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, one – of Ukraine, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of Uzbekistan as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to two citizens of Russia and one – of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits; as well as to one citizen of Ukraine and one – Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

one citizen of Russia, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Egypt were detected at the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 7 foreigners – five citizens of Ukraine, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of India.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 12 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 5 citizens of Belarus, two - of Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Moldova and one – of Germany.
