On Sunday, February 25, officials of the State Border Guard detected 8 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border by persons, while a total 54 persons have been stopped from illegally crossing the state border during this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 34 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

19 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Pāternieki Border Control Point one citizen of Belarus, who presented to border guards a forged Montenegrin International Vehicle Insurance Policy, was detected. The person was subjected to administrative liability. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal process.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 11 foreigners

at the Terehova Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to eight citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Moldova was detected at the Terehova Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – two citizens of Lithuania and one - of Cameroon.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 12 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – two citizens of Latvia, two - of Belarus, two – of Estonia, two – of Tajikistan, one - of Lithuania, one – of India, one – of Serbia and one – of Germany.
