On Thursday, February 29, 2 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 80 persons have been stopped this year.
Due to humanitarian reasons, one person was not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; 1 person have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.
Officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country.
- 18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including: entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners. At the Terehova Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova due to security reasons; to five citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to one citizen of Uzbekistan, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States; to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; while at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of USA, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the previous 180 days. The persons were returned to the country of departure.
While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for two citizens of Russia.
Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 12 citizens of Belarus, three – of Lithuania, one - of Latvia, one – of Estonia, one - of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one – of Georgia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Rumania and one – of Germany.
