On Saturday, February 3, officials of the State Border Guard did not detect any attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border by persons, while a total 5 persons have been stopped from illegally crossing the state border during this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 35 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

17 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

At the Pāternieki Border Control Point one citizen of Belarus, who presented to border guards a forged Uzbekistan technical inspection certificate, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated, the forged document was seized.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 11 foreigners

at the Grebņeva and the Terehova Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel documents and to eight citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. While at the port of Mērsrags, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia (maritime worker) due to security reasons. Regarding the maritime worker, a letter of guarantee from the ship's master has been taken - that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port; the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia leaving the country, who was not in possession of valid travel document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – two citizens of Estonia, one – of Russia, one - of Lithuania and one – of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 13 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Latvia, two – of Estonia, two – of Moldova, two – of Germany, one – of Russia, one – of Belarus, one – of Romania and one – of Serbia.
