On Tuesday, March 5, 28 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 167 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, 0 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 1 person has been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 40 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

14 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with documents of another person was detected

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one Comorian citizen, who presented to border guards a French Identity Card of another person, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for concealing his identity.

  • 1 wanted person was detained

At the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia, who is wanted by the Police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 foreigners

at the Terehova and the Grebņeva Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia and one - of Kazakhstan, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits; while at the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Belarus and one – of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

two citizens of Moldova, one - of Kirgizstan, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Georgia were detected at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 9 persons – five citizens of Russia, one - of Latvia, one – of Belarus, one – of USA and one – of Pakistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 10 citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Kazakhstan, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia and one - of Moldova.
