On Sunday, November 29, border guards detained another bribe-giver at the Pāternieki Border Control Point - a citizen of Azerbaijan tried to bribe the border guards by offering a bribe of EUR 20.
During the border check on persons and vehicles crossing the state border, the border guards detected an Azerbaijani citizen entering Latvia who wanted to cross the state border with a car and a trailer, which had not undergone the national technical inspection of vehicles in accordance with the established procedure.
The driver presented the border guards a passport containing a 20 euro banknote, which was intended as a bribe for the border guards to allow him to cross the state border with a car and a trailer that had not undergone the national technical inspection of vehicles in accordance with the established procedure.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated for bribery pursuant to Section 323, Paragraph one of the Criminal Law and the criminal case file has been sent to the Krāslava District Prosecution Office with a proposal to initiate criminal prosecution against the suspected citizen of Azerbaijan. According to the statement of the Prosecutor of the Krāslava District Prosecution Office, a financial penalty of 10 minimum monthly wages has been imposed on a citizen of Azerbaijan, i.e. EUR 4 300.
