On Saturday, August 10, two persons were detained for transporting persons who had crossed the border illegally.
While conduct control of the borderland and the border area regime, border guards stopped an Opel Vectra Station Wagon driven by a citizen of Lithuania and a Latvian non-citizen sitting next to him in the passenger seat of the vehicle in Augšdaugava Municipality. During a document check, seven persons of Asian origin without travel documents, valid visas and residence permits were detected in the cabin and luggage compartment of the vehicle.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the citizen of Lithuania and non-citizen of Latvia for knowingly ensuring a person with the possibility to stay illegally in the Republic of Latvia, if such a possibility is provided for more than five persons (Section 2851(3) of the Criminal Law).
The mentioned offences are punishable by imprisonment from two till eight years.
The third-country citizens are stopped from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with the Cabinet Order No 184 of March 12, 2024 "Regarding Declaration of the Reinforced Operating Regime of the Border Guarding System".
