On Tuesday, April 1, State Border Guard officers prevented 5 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. In total, 360 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

For humanitarian reasons seven people have been admitted this year.

In total, 40 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country, and 16 border violators were detected at the external borders.

  • One wanted person detained

A Latvian non-citizen entering from Warsaw was detected at the border control point of Riga Airport and is wanted by the police. The man was detained and handed over to State Police officers.

  • Entry into Latvia denied to five foreigners

At the border checkpoints of Grebņeva, Terehova, Pāternieki and Riga Airport, entry into Latvia was denied to one Belarusian citizen because the foreigner did not have a valid visa or residence permit, one Ukrainian citizen because the foreigner did not have a valid travel document, one Armenian citizen because the foreigner could not justify the purpose and circumstances of entry, and another Belarusian and one Ukrainian citizen due to security reasons. The aforementioned persons were returned to their countries of departure.

  • Violations of residence conditions were found for one foreigner

At the border checkpoint of Pāternieki, one Moldovan citizen was found to have violated the residence conditions (exceeded the period of residence specified for the visa-free regime) in the Schengen area countries. The person was held administratively liable.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for three persons – one Estonian, one Ukrainian and one Sri Lankan citizen.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 21 persons administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border – five citizens of Uzbekistan, three citizens of Latvia, two citizens of Belarus, two citizens of Tajikistan, two citizens of Lithuania, one citizen of Russia, one citizen of Georgia, one citizen of Kazakhstan, one citizen of Kyrgyzstan, one citizen of Serbia, one citizen of Great Britain and one citizen of Moldova.
