On Monday, April 17, 18 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 1668 persons have been stopped during this year. 125 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons a total this year.

On April 17, officials of the State Border Guard detected 42 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

23 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 11 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki, the Silene, the Vientuļi and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Uzbekistan and one – of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova and one – of Russia, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel documents; to three citizens of Turkish and one – of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. Two more citizens of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

two citizens of Tajikistan, one – of Ukraine, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Kazakhstan were detected at the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, were not in possession of valid travel document). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizen of Ukraine was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons - one citizen of Russia, one - of Tajikistan and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 16 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Moldova, two – of Russia, one – of Georgia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Kirgizstan, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan.
