On Tuesday, August 15, 40 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 5839 persons have been stopped this year.

In total 292 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 15, officials of the State Border Guard detected 57 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

34 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 14 foreigners

at the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia, one – of Kazakhstan and one - of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to two citizens of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Three more citizens of Ukraine, two – of Russia and two – of Belarus were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Ukraine and one – of Georgia were detected at the Grebņeva Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid travel document). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the two citizens of Germany was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Lithuania.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Belarus, four – of Russia, four – of Moldova, three – of Latvia, two - of Lithuania, one – of Estonia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Serbia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan.
