On Sunday, August 20, 31 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6027 persons have been stopped this year.

in total 292 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 20, officials of the State Border Guard detected 57 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

34 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 18 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki, the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Iran and one - of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Six more citizens of Russia, five - of Ukraine, two – of Israel and one – of Lithuania were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 6 foreigners

three citizens of Azerbaijan, one – of Uzbekistan, one – of Kazakhstan and one – of Kirgizstan were detected at the Terehova, the Grebņeva, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the Pāternieki Border Control Point one minor citizen of Latvia, leaving the country, who did not have the notarized consent of at least one parent to leave the country independently, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 4 persons – three citizens of Estonia and one – of Syria.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, four – of Moldova, two – of Russia, two – of Kazakhstan, one - of Latvia, one – of Kirgizstan, one – of Spain and one – of Ukraine.
