On Monday, August 21, 107 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6134 persons have been stopped this year.

In total 292 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 21, officials of the State Border Guard detected 67 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

41 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 19 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki, the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Ukraine, one – of Uzbekistan and one - of Israel, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to three citizens of Ukraine and one - of Moldova, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; to one citizen of Turkey, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay. Seven more citizens of Russia and two - of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 15 foreigners

11 citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Ukraine, one – of Moldova and one – of Georgia were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa or visa-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by a citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one minor citizen of Latvia, departing for Istanbul, who did not have the notarized consent of the second parent to leave the country independently, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for four citizens of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, four – of Russia, three - of Moldova, two - of Latvia, one – of Estonia, one – of Georgia, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Tajikistan, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Ukraine.
