On Tuesday, August 22, 143 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6277 persons have been stopped this year.

In total 292 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 22, officials of the State Border Guard detected 46 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

23 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 person with forged documents was detected

One Latvian citizen was detected in Ventspils Unit during profiling of passengers departing to Sweden, who presented to border guards forged Slovak Republic vehicle driving license. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal process.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 7 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki, the Vientuļi and the Grebņeva Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Ukraine and one – of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay. One more citizen of Ukraine and one – of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 8 foreigners

six citizens of Turkey, one – of Ukraine and one – of Georgia were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa or visa-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by a citizen of Turkey was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected one citizen of India.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – eight citizens of Belarus, four – of Uzbekistan, two – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Romania, one – of Germany and one – of Ukraine.
