On Wednesday, August 23, 102 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6379 persons have been stopped this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, seven persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; 299 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 23, officials of the State Border Guard detected 73 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

47 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 16 foreigners

at the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Russia and one - of Ukraine, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; to one citizen of Kirgizstan, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay;

as well as to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Four more citizens of Ukraine, three – of Russia - and two – of Israel were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 9 foreigners

four citizens of Uzbekistan, two – of Tajikistan, one – of Ukraine, one – of Russia and one – of Great Britain were detected at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizen of Great Britain was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for Edinburg, who was not in possession of valid for travel to Great Britain document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons – two citizens of Lithuania, one – of Russia, one - of Estonia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 20 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 10 citizens of Belarus, three – of Ukraine, two – of Uzbekistan, two – of Moldova, one – of Latvia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Kazakhstan.
