On Thursday, August 24, 53 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6432 persons have been stopped this year.

In total 299 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 24, officials of the State Border Guard detected 50 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

24 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 7 foreigners

at the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova and one – of Serbia, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner was banned from entry into the territory of the Schengen States. Two more citizens of Russia and one – of Belarus were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Great Britain and one – of Belarus were detected at the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in visa or vise-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by the citizens of Great Britain was not initiated, the other person was subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 3 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, was detected, as well as two minor citizens of Latvia, departing for Istanbul, who were not in possession of a notarized consent of the other parent, a citizen of Latvia, for a child to leave the country, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – one citizen of Estonia, one – of Ukraine, one – of India, one – of Moldova and one – of Uzbekistan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 20 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, three – of Uzbekistan, two – of Latvia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Russia, one - of Estonia, one – of Armenia, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Kirgizstan, one – of Moldova and one – of Slovakia.
