On Thursday, August 25, 127 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6559 persons have been stopped this year.

In total 299 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 25, officials of the State Border Guard detected 49 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

24 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the Silene Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Ukraine and one – of Russia, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay. Four more citizens of Ukraine were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 9 foreigners

six citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Turkey were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation, committed by a citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons – one citizen of Estonia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Russia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 22 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, three – of Latvia, two – of Russia, two – of Lithuania, two – of Kazakhstan, two – of Moldova, one – of Serbia, one – of Ukraine, one - of Uzbekistan and one – of Czech Republic.
