On Sunday, August 27, 3 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 6643 persons have been stopped during this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons, four persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; 309 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

On August 27, officials of the State Border Guard detected 61 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

31 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the Pāternieki Border Control Point 1 citizen of Ukraine, who presented to border guards forged Ukrainian vehicle driving license, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for using forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal process.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 15 foreigners

at the Vientuļi, the Grebņeva, the Terehova, the Pāterniek, the Silene and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia and one – of Belarus, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; as well as to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay. Eight more citizens of Ukraine and three - of Russia were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the country of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

one citizen of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of Georgia were detected at the Terehova and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa or visa-free regime, were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for London, without valid for travelling to Great Britain documents, was detected; as well as one citizen of Latvia, departing for Paphos, who was not in possession of valid travel document (document invalid due to last name change), was detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 29 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – 10 citizens of Belarus, four – of Latvia, four – of Lithuania, three – of Ukraine, two – of Kirgizstan, two - of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one – of Israel, one – of Great Britain and one – of Turkey.
