On Thursday, August 8, 8 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 3726 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 12 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 48 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

26 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with documents of another person was detected

During immigration control at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one Cameroonian citizen, who presented a Senegalese passport of another person to border guards, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the person for concealing his identity.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 12 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to five citizens of Moldova,  one – of Ukraine, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of Georgia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia and  one – of Kazakhstan due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

one citizen of Russia, one – of Uzbekistan and one - of Kirgizstan were detected at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen (female) of Latvia, departing for Great Britain without a valid travel document, and one minor citizen of Latvia departing for Armenia, who did not have the other parent's notarised consent for the child to leave the country, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 7 persons -  three citizens of Latvia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Gambia, one – of Japan and one – of Romania.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, one – Latvia, one – of Russia, one – of France, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Great Britain, one – of Moldova, one – of Romania and one - of Uzbekistan.
