On Sunday, November 27, 2022, another briber, a Kyrgyz national, was apprehended at the „Riga” Airport border control point. This is the second attempt this week when a person has tried to „bribe” the border guards.
A citizen of Kyrgyzstan was detected during passenger profiling and immigration control in the public area whose trip itinerary did not match the purpose stated on the visa application. Most likely, the person will create a risk of illegal employment and immigration in the EU countries. The border guards decided to revoke the person’s visa. The individual attempted to “bribe” the border guards with a wad of cash in order to overturn the decision and be allowed to cross the border.
According to Article 323 (1) of the Criminal Law, criminal proceedings have been initiated against a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, born in 1987, for bribery.
Bribery is considered a serious crime according to the Criminal Law of the Republic of Latvia and is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period of up to five years or temporary deprivation of liberty, probationary supervision, community service, or a fine equal to ten to twenty times the minimum monthly wage as determined by the Republic of Latvia.
