On April 19, 2023, border guards detained one person - a citizen of Ukraine - for using forged documents
At the Silene Border Control Point a Ukrainian citizen, born in 1970, who presented a forged Ukrainian driver's license while crossing the state border with a passenger car, was detained.
According to the first part of Section 275 of the Criminal Law criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. After carrying out all the necessary criminal procedural actions, the criminal process was sent to the South Latgale Prosecutor's Office for the initiation of criminal prosecution.
Criminal Law provides that for a person who commits forgery of a document conferring rights or a release from obligations, of a seal or a stamp, as well as commits using or selling a forged document, seal or stamp, the applicable punishment is the deprivation of liberty for a period of up to one year or temporary deprivation of liberty, or fine; however for the commission of the same acts if they have been committed for the purpose of acquiring property or if they have been committed by a group of persons according to a prior agreement, or if they have caused substantial harm to public authority, management order or the interests of a person protected by law, there is a threat of imprisonment of up to three years.
