On Thursday, December 12, at the Grebņeva Border Control Point, border guards detained a briber - a Serbia citizen, who was trying to bribe border guards by offering a bribe of €300.
While administering a queue of heavy goods vehicles on the A13 road (Russian border (Grebneva) - Rēzekne), a border guard was approached by a Serbian citizen who wanted to bypass the queue of lorries.
While waiting for the control ticket to be issued, the man offered the border guard €300 as a bribe to allow him to bypass the queue of heavy goods vehicles.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the Serbian citizen, for a bribery pursuant to Section 323(1) of the Criminal Law, the person was recognised as a suspect, and on December 14, 2024, the criminal proceedings were handed over to the South Latgale Prosecution Office under urgent procedures for the initiation of criminal prosecution.
Bribery qualifies as a serious crime punishable in accordance with the Criminal Law by the deprivation of liberty for a period of up to five years, or temporary deprivation of liberty, or probation supervision, or community service, or a fine.
