On Monday, September 2, during a check of the passenger lists and profiling of persons arriving from Dubai, three citizens of Afghanistan were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, they presented to border guards travel documents of other persons - one passport of a Dutch citizen and two - of French citizens.

When comparing the persons with the passport photos, the border guards detected that the holders of the documents did not match the photos, and the height of the persons did not match the height indicated in the passports. During the interview, the persons admitted to being citizens of Afghanistan.

According to the first part of Section 281 of the Criminal Law criminal proceedings were initiated against the persons who commit concealing personal identity in the course of residing in the Republic of Latvia using the document of another person. The forged documents were seized.

This year, in total, the border guards have detected 24 attempts of persons to enter Latvia with forged identity documents or identity documents of other persons. The vast majority of cases were detected at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, where so far 19 persons have tried to enter Latvia with forged documents or documents of other persons. As well as, such cases were detected at the Terehova Border Control Point.
