On March 30, 2023, border guards stopped the illegal movement of tobacco products in the Krāslava County and detained three persons in connection with cigarette smuggling.
On Thursday, while performing service duty, officials of the State Border Guard noticed three men carrying several packages, possibly with cigarettes, in the vicinity of the Adamova village near the bank of the Daugava River. Seeing the border guards, the men dropped the packages, and one of them tried to run away, but failed. All three offenders were detained.
Three packages of cigarettes and a bag with rubber boat were found at the scene of the events.
In total 59 000 cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps were seized.
Criminal proceedings were initiated regarding the abovementioned fact in accordance with Section 221, Paragraph three of the Criminal Law (regarding smuggling, if it has been committed in large scale).
