On Monday, June 8 in Skrudaliena Parish of Daugavpils District, border guards stopped the illegal movement of cigarettes across the state border, detaining two Latvian citizens.
Checking information on the illegal movement of excise goods officials of the Silene Border Guarding Unit in Skrudaliena Parish in the border zone detected four boxes wrapped in black polyethylene film, and as a result of search measures, two Latvian citizens were detained for committing a criminal offense. In total, border guards seized 80,000 NZ Gold cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
Criminal proceedings were initiated pursuant to Article 190(2) of the Criminal Law (regarding the import into the territory of the Republic of Latvia or export from it of goods or other valuables subject to customs clearance, circumventing the customs control or concealing these goods from this control, or failing to declare, or utilizing fake customs or other documents, or in another illegal way (smuggling) committed by a group of persons according to a prior agreement). Non-custodial security measures were applied to the persons.
Both mentioned persons were subject to administrative liability according to Article 1941 of the LAVC (for violation of the regime for the state border, frontier, border zone, border crossing points).
