On Thursday, August 23 in Krāslava Municipality 3 Latvian citizens were detained and 90000 smuggled cigarettes were seized in the framework of a criminal proceedings which have been initiated in the framework of organized smuggling and illegal border crossing.
As a result of long-term operational measures, in the Piedruja Parish of Krāslava Municipality the officials of the State Border Guard detained a Latvian citizen born in 1985, who carried black packages wrapped in black plastic film with smuggled cigarettes inside. Two people managed to escape.
In the place of the event, 90 000 cigarettes "Premjer" with Belarusian excise stamps were seized.
As a result of search activities, two previously escaped persons were detained - both citizens of Latvia - born in 1981 and 1990.
Persons were placed at a State Police temporary detention facility.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings, on the grounds of suspected assistance in the illegal movement of cigarettes across the state border, one State Border Guard official was detained.
