On Tuesday, January 26, border guards seized 10 thousand smuggling cigarettes in Rezekne Municipality.
Border guards of the Ludza Board of the State Border Guard on a suspicion of illegally moving tobacco products, on the A12 road within the Rezekne Municipality, stopped an Opel Vectra brand car, which was driven by a Latvian citizen, born in 1982. During an inspection of the car, the border guards identified two carton boxes with “NZ Gold” cigarettes inside the passenger compartment.
In total, border guards seized 10 000 “NZ Gold” cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
Criminal proceedings were initiated pursuant to Article 221(1) of the Criminal Law regarding the illicit manufacture (production), storage, movement (transportation) or disposal of tobacco products, if it has been committed on a significant scale.
