The events, related to the 30th anniversary of the restoration of the State Border Guard were held in an epidemiologically safe environment and began with a flower – laying ceremony by the Monument of Freedom, which was attended by the management of the State Border Guard (SBG) and the State Border Guard College (SBGC), Chiefs of the SBG Headquarters, as well as Chiefs of SBG Regional Boards. Among the guests of the event were the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Minister of the Interior, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the Minister of Defense, and the Chief of the State Police and the Director General of the State Revenue Service.
Afterwards, the management of the SBG, SBGC and SBG’s Regional Boards and Structural units, together with the guests, arrived to the SBG Headquarters, where a ceremonial awarding of border guards was organized in the rank square. Chief of the State Border Guard General Guntis Pujāts, Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš, Minister of Interior Marija Golubeva and Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks adressed the audience.
During the ceremony, nine officials of the State Border Guard received various awards on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia for excellent performance of service tasks, initiative, and results achieved, selfless and professional action taken in saving human’s life, as well as contribution to the development of the State Border Guard’s College, namely, the “Badge of Honour” and the award badge “For Self – denial” of the Ministry of Interior, the Letter of Recognition of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Letter of Gratitude from the Prime Minister, as well as the special rank before the term.
Additionally, reconnaissance and transfer of received cars and technical equipment to the Regional Boards of the SBG took place.
As part of the project, the SBG supplemented its fleet with 12 specialized Renault Traffic minibuses with special equipment, which will be used by the immigration control units of the SBG.
The vehicles have been retrofitted to make service more comfortable and ergonomic. As the state border guards who perform immigration control have to spend several hours by the desk, filling in documents and working on a computer, the new vehicles have comfortable and ergonomic workstations, where two border guards will be able to work simultaneously. The layout of the minibuses is also designed to make it easier for border guards to move around the vehicle and work with the necessary technical equipment.
It is intended to use the vehicles to perform service duties related to the control of the observance of the rules of entry, residence, employment, departure and transit of aliens both within the country and at internal borders, as well as a temporary solution in case of reintroduction of border control at internal borders.
