On May 15-16, a meeting of the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Guntis Pujāts, the Chief of the Lithuanian Police Department, General Renatas Požėla, and the Chief of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, General Rustamas Liubajevas, took place in Klaipėda, Lithuania.
During the meeting, the Chiefs discussed the situation on the Latvian and Lithuanian borders, trends and risks in the light of the Belarusian hybrid attack. They also discussed possibilities for mutual support to both countries to address this difficult situation and to strengthen capacity and ensure an effective response to the potential threat of hybrid wars.
During the meeting, a cross-border cooperation agreement between the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the Police Department of the Republic of Lithuania was also signed.
During the signing of the agreement, General R.Požėla, Chief of the Police Department of the Republic of Lithuania, said "Together we are a force and we are ready to give You a hand in difficult moment." General G.Pujāts, Chief of the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia, said: "This agreement is a testament to our close cooperation and willingness to help each other." Emphasizing that last year the State Border Guard provided support to the Lithuanian side by sending its experts and dog handlers with service dogs to the NATO Summit in Lithuania, and observing the current hybrid attack launched by the Lukashenko regime against the EU Member States, the Chief of the State Border Guard expressed confidence that the Lithuanian Police Department will also be ready to help us in difficult moments.
