On November 28, 2018 the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Normunds Garbars, visits Dushanbe (Tajikistan), where the 4th Regional Evaluation Meeting of BOMCA 9 (Border Management Program in Central Asia, Phase 9) activities was held.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the public authorities of the BOMCA 9 target countries Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, including representatives of the BOMCA project target authorities, representatives of the European Union Delegation to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, representatives of BOMCA 9 Consortium members, EU embassies accredited in Tajikistan as well as international organizations and projects.

General Normunds Garbars, Chief of the State Border Guard and BOMCA 9 project and Consortium leader, represented the State Border Guard at the meeting.

During the meeting, the participants discussed issues related to the implementation of the BOMCA 9 project - the most important achievements to date and plans by December 14, 2019, the progress of the implementation of the Consortium's recommendations to the BOMCA 9 project target countries, as well as the possible continuation of the project after 2019.

The BOMCA 9 project is implemented within the framework of cooperation between the countries of the European Union and the Central Asian region and its main objectives are improving the overall border security situation in Central Asia, supporting the trade and transit procedures facilitation between the five Central Asian countries, improving the efficient management of migration flows and strengthening cooperation within the framework of integrated border management.

On June 11, 2015 the Grant Agreement "Border Management in Central Asia - Phase 9 (BOMCA 9)" was signed between the European Union Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic and the International EU Consortium led by the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia, according to which on June 15, 2015 the implementation of the project activities was launched. The State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia is a leading authority regarding Consortium management within the framework of the Border Management Program in Central Asia.
