On June 25-27, 2018 the Chief of the State Border Guard, General Normunds Garbars, was on a working visit to Finland, in accordance with the invitation of Lieutenant General Jaako Kaukanen, Chief of the Finnish Border Guard.
During the meeting, the Chiefs of the Latvian and Finnish border guard authorities exchanged information on the situation at the external borders of both countries, discussed issues related to the involvement of personnel and equipment of the Latvian and Finnish border guard authorities in FRONTEX operations, and discussed the prospects for further cooperation in the framework of bilateral and regional cooperation.
The cooperation between Latvian and Finnish border guard authorities is based on the Protocol of 14 October 2010 on Cooperation between the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia and the Finnish Border Guard.
