On Sunday, 6 February, at the borderland on the Braslav - Daugavpils highway, border guards detained a bribe - taker, citizen of Belarus, who offered a bribe of 10 EUR to border guards for them not to pay attention to the fact that a man has parked his truck with a trailer on the left side of the road for a long period of time.
Border guards have noticed a citizen of Belarus who had parked his truck with a trailer on the left side of the road outside the settlement for a long period of time. In order not to draw up a protocol of an administrative violation and not to impose a penalty for a violation of the Road Traffic Regulation, the men offered a bribe in the amount of 10 EUR to the border guards.
Criminal proceedings for a bribery have been initiated pursuant to Section 323, Paragraph one of the Criminal Law and the materials of the criminal case have been forwarded to the South Latgale Prosecutor’s Office for criminal prosecution. The South Latgale Prosecutor’s Office, in turn, prosecuted the person and imposed a fine of 10 minimum monthly salaries, i.e. 5.000 EUR.
Bribery according the Criminal Law of the Republic of Latvia is classified as a serious crime punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment, temporary deprivation of liberty, forced labor or a fine of ten to two thousand minimum salaries set by the Government of the Republic of Latvia.
