On Tuesday, March 3 in Daugavpils Municipality the officers of the State Border Guard detected more than 64 thousand cigarettes "NZ Gold" with Belarusian excise stamps, as well as two persons with 13 plastic cans filled with diesel fuel.
Three rectangular bags were found by a border guard of the Daugavpils Board of the State Border Guard during his free time in Naujene Parish of Daugavpils Municipality, about 500 meters from the Indra-Daugavpils railway section.
The border guard contacted his colleagues, who arrived at the scene and inspecting bags seized 64,400 "NZ Gold" cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
While performing on-the-spot procedural activity, border guards detected two persons, moving 13 cans characterised by the odour of diesel - a total of 260 litres.
State Police officers, who came to the scene, were informed about the incident. Both persons and cans were handed over to the State Police officers for further performing of the procedural activity.
The State Police officers drawn an administrative violation report according to Article 169.3 of the Latvian Administrative Violations Code (on violation of the regulations regarding the acquisition, marketing, storage or transport (carriage) of goods to which excise duty is applied). In its turn, the State Border Guard officers commenced criminal proceedings in accordance with Article 221(1) of the Criminal Law (on illegal storage, movement (transportation) or disposal of alcoholic beverages or tobacco products, if it has been committed on a significant scale).
