On Wednesday, December 18, 0 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 5388 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 26 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 33 offenders at external borders and within the country. 18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 foreigners

at the Terehova Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; while at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 7 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan, two – of Tajikistan and two – of Kyrgyzstan and were detected at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 persons

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Spain (female) departing for Great Britain and one citizen of Estonia (female) departing for Cyprus without valid travel documents, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 3 persons -  one citizen of Latvia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 12 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Belarus, two - of Lithuania, two – of Azerbaijan, one – of Russia, one – of Austria, one – of Kazakhstan and one – of Serbia.
