On Thursday, December 19, 0 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 5388 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 26 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 37 offenders at external borders and within the country. 18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Azerbaijan, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; while at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner has a Schengen entry ban (he is not allowed to enter or stay in the territory of the Schengen area countries); as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to four citizens of Belarus, one - of Moldova, one – of Ukraine and one – of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

one citizen of Uzbekistan, one – of Great Britain and one – of Guinea were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia departing for Great Britain, whose travel document was not valid for travel to Great Britain, and another one departing for Ireland, who is banned from leaving the country, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons -  three citizens of Russia, one – of Latvia and one – of Lithuania. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, three – of Tajikistan, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one - of Lithuania, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Romania and one – of Germany.
