On Saturday, December 28, 0 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 5388 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 26 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 35 offenders at external borders and within the country. 18 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 10 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points and the Port of Liepāja entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia, one – of Uzbekistan and one – of Belarus as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Moldova, two – of Russia (one is a seafarer) due to security reasons. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship’s captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Kyrgyzstan, and one – of Kazakhstan were detected at the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia departing for Great Britain, who is prohibited from leaving the country, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 persons – one citizen of Estonia and one – of Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 15 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Kirgizstan, three - of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Tajikistan, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Bosnia and Herzegovina, one – of Moldova, one – of Serbia and one – of Uzbekistan.
