On Sunday, December 8, 17 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 5384 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 26 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 29 offenders at external borders and within the country. 13 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

at the Port of Ventspils, during the profiling of vehicles and passengers on a ferry departing for Sweden, a citizen of Lithuania, who presented to border guards a forged Lithuanian driving licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Ukraine, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days. While at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova and one – of Serbia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; to two citizens of Russia, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as  well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, one – of Lithuania and one - of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 2 foreigners

one citizen of Uzbekistan and one – of Tajikistan were detected at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 2 persons – one citizen of Russia and one – of Estonia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 14 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, three – of Uzbekistan, two – of Lithuania, one – of Russia, one – of Estonia, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Moldova, one – of Hungary and one – of Sweden.
