On Friday, February 14, 7 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 181 persons have been stopped this year. 

Due to humanitarian reasons, 2 persons were not banned from crossing the state border during the past 24 hours; a total 5 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 54 offenders at external borders and within the country. 20 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 11 foreigners

at the Port of Ventspils entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizens of Georgia, as the foreigner has a Schengen entry ban (he is not allowed to enter or stay in the territory of the Schengen area countries); while at the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; as well as to eight citizens of Moldova and one – of Romania due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 4 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan and one – of Tajikistan were detected at the Grebņeva, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 8 persons - two citizens Lithuania, two – of Ukraine, two - of Uzbekistan, one – of Estonia and one – of India.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 26 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Moldova, four - of Russia, three - of Belarus, two – of Latvia, two – of Serbia, two – of Finland, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Slovakia, one – of Ukraine and one – of Uzbekistan.
