On Sunday, February 23, 0 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 198 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 6 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 39 offenders at external borders and within the country. 15 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 6 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova and one – of India, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid travel document; to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner has a Schengen entry ban (he is not allowed to enter or stay in the territory of the Schengen area countries); as well as to one citizen of America, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 4 foreigners

two citizens of Moldova and two – of Uzbekistan were detected at the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for one citizen of Estonia.  

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 23 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Kazakhstan, five – of Moldova, three – of Russia, three – of Uzbekistan, two - of Belarus, two – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Italy, one – of Romania and one – of Tajikistan.
