On Monday, January 15, officials of the State Border Guard have not detected any attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border by persons, while a total 5 persons have been stopped from illegally crossing the state border during this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 35 offenders at external borders and within the country. 

16 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia and one – of USA, as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; to one citizen of Turkey, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; to one citizen of Uzbekistan, as the foreigner was banned from entry and stay the territory of the Schengen States. Five more citizens of Moldova were banned from entry into the Republic of Latvia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 5 foreigners

three citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Kirgizstan were detected at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, were not in possession of valid visas or residence permits). The citizens were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point one citizen of Latvia, departing for London without valid for travelling to Great Britain document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 9 persons – four citizens of Azerbaijan, two – of Estonia, one – of Russia, one – of Uzbekistan and one - of Latvia.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 10 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Belarus, three – of Latvia, two – of Moldova, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of Germany.
