On Friday, January 17, 0 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 15 persons have been stopped this year. 

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 41 offenders at external borders and within the country. 14 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

During passenger profiling at the Port of Ventspils, one citizen of Latvia entered the country by ferry, who presented to border guards a forged Polish driving licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 foreigners

At the Terehova, the Grebņeva and the Pāternieki Border Control Points as well as at the Port of Ventspils entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia (one is a seafarer) and two - of Belarus due to security reasons. Regarding the seafarer, a letter of guarantee was taken from the ship’s captain that the foreigner will not go ashore while the ship is in port, the other persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 4 foreigners

two citizens of Uzbekistan, one – of Georgia and one -  of Tajikistan were detected at Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Uzbekistan was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia departing for Turkey, who is prohibited to leave the country, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 10 persons -  3 citizens of Estonia, two – of Lithuania, two – of Tajikistan, one - of Russia, one – of Poland and one - of Ukraine.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Moldova, two – of Latvia, two – of Lithuania, two – of Ukraine, two – of Uzbekistan, one – of Russia, one - of Belarus, one – of Austria, one – of Georgia and one – of Kyrgyzstan.
