On Saturday, January 25, 28 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 87 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 3 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 38 offenders at external borders and within the country. 19 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 citizen of Latvia with forged documents was detected

At the Pāternieki Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia leaving the country, who presented to border guards a forged Polish driving licence, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents. The forged document was seized within the framework of the criminal proceedings.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 8 foreigners

at the Terehova, the Pāternieki and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner could not justify the purpose and conditions of his entry and stay; to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to three citizens of Belarus, one – of Germany, one - of Moldova and one - of Russia due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Uzbekistan and one – of Kyrgyzstan were detected at the Grebņeva, the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 citizen of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Latvia departing for Great Britain, whose travel document was not valid for travelling to Great Britain, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Uzbekistan. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – four citizens of Russia, three – of Uzbekistan, three – of Moldova, two - of Belarus, two – of Lithuania, two – of Kazakhstan, one – of Latvia and one – of Germany.
