On Sunday, January 26, 14 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 101 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 3 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 40 offenders at external borders and within the country. 14 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 9 foreigners

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; while at the Terehova, the Grebņeba and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Kazakhstan, one – of Russia and one – of Belarus as the foreigners were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Russia and one - of Ukraine due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Russia was detected at the Terehova Border Control Point, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 1 foreigner

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Lithuania departing for Egypt, who was not in possession of valid travel document, was detected. The person was banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 1 citizen of Lithuania. 

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 25 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – seven citizens of Belarus, three – of Moldova, three – of Serbia, two – of Lithuania, two – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Kazakhstan, one – of Spain, one – of Tajikistan, one – of Latvia, one - of Russia, one – of Estonia and one – of Uzbekistan.
