On Tuesday, January 28, 17 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 125 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 3 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 32 offenders at external borders and within the country. 8 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 5 foreigners

at the Grebņeba and the Terehova Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; as well as entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Ukraine and one - of Belarus due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 1 foreigner

one citizen of Ukraine was detected at the Terehova Border Control Point for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa-free regime). The person was subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 6 persons -  two citizens of Russia, one – of Latvia, one – of Italy, one – of Great Britain and one – of China.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 18 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – six citizens of Belarus, three - of Moldova, three – of Ukraine, two – of Serbia, one – of Latvia, one – of Estonia, one – of Lithuania and one – of Uzbekistan.
