On Thursday, October 3, the border guards detained an organizer of the transportation of illegal state border crossers, who had posted an advertisement for his services in the Telegram app.
During operational measures, in Rēzekne Municipality, the border guards detained a Latvian citizen who, for payment, organized the transportation of nine illegal state border crossers from the Belarus-Latvia border area to Riga. Also, as a result of operational measures, nine third-country nationals without travel documents, as well as valid visas and residence permits were detained.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the Latvian citizen under Article 285(1)(3) of the Criminal Law for knowingly ensuring persons the possibility to reside illegally in the Republic of Latvia, if such the possibility was ensured for more than five persons at one time.
The third-country nationals are prevented from illegally crossing the state border in accordance with Cabinet Order No. 184 of March 12, 2024 “Regarding Declaration of the Reinforced Operating Regime of the Border Guarding System”.
