On Wednesday, March 12, 0 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 230 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 7 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 36 offenders at external borders and within the country. 14 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 6 foreigners

at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Belarus, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit; at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Uzbekistan and one – of Armenia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay; at the Terehova Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Georgia, as the foreigner has a Schengen entry ban (he is not allowed to enter or stay in the territory of the Schengen area countries); at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Moldova, as the foreigner has already stayed for 90 days in the territory of the Schengen area countries in the preceding 180 days; while at Grebņeva Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Russia, due to security reasons. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

two citizens of Turkey and one – of Kazakhstan were detected at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa and residence permit, exceeded the duration of stay specified in the visa). Record-keeping regarding the administrative violation committed by one citizen of Turkey was not initiated, the other persons were subjected to administrative liability.

  • exit from the Republic of Latvia was refused to 2 citizens of Latvia

at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, two citizens of Latvia departing for Great Britain, whose travel documents were not valid for travel to Great Britain, were detected. The persons were banned from leaving the country.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 5 persons – one citizen of Russia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Armenia, one – of Azerbaijan and one – of India.

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 17 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – three citizens of Lithuania, three - of Moldova, two – of Latvia, two - of Belarus, two – of Estonia, one – of Georgia, one – of Kyrgyzstan, one – of Romania, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Uzbekistan.
