On Saturday, March 29, State Border Guard officers prevented four people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. In total, 319 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons seven people have been admitted this year.

In total, 50 offenders were detected at the external borders and within the country, and 21 border violators were detected at the external borders.

  • One Latvian citizen was denied exit from the country

One Latvian citizen was denied exit from the country at the Riga Airport border control point, because the presented document was not valid for entry into the United Kingdom.

  • Entry into Latvia was denied to 14 foreigners

At the Grebņeva, Terehova and Pāternieki border checkpoints, entry into Latvia was denied to one Ukrainian citizen because the foreigner did not have valid travel documents, three Russian citizens and one Uzbek citizen because the foreigners did not have a valid visa or residence permit, one Moldovan citizen because the foreigner could not justify the purpose and circumstances of entry, three Moldovan citizens because the foreigners had already used up the specified period of residence in the territory of the Schengen area countries, and two Russian, one Belarusian, one German and one Lithuanian citizens due to security reasons. The aforementioned persons were returned to their countries of departure.

  • Violations of residence conditions were detected for one foreigner

At the Terehova border checkpoint, one Russian citizen was detected who had violated the conditions of stay (no valid visa or residence permit) in the Schengen area countries. The person was held administratively liable.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence regulations were detected for eight persons – six Estonian, one Lithuanian and one Moldovan citizens.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 21 persons – three Belarusian, three Moldovan, three Latvian, two Estonian, two Lithuanian, two Macedonian, two Serbian, one Russian, one Romanian, one Ukrainian and one Uzbek citizens – administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border.
