On Monday, March 31, State Border Guard officers prevented 10 people from illegally crossing the Latvian-Belarusian state border. In total, 355 people have been prevented from illegally crossing the state border this year.

Due to humanitarian reasons seven people have been admitted this year.

In total, 60 violators were detected at the external borders and within the country, and 28 border violators were detected at the external borders.

  • One wanted person detained

A Latvian citizen entering from East Midlands, United Kingdom was detected at the border control point of Riga Airport, who is wanted by the police. The man was detained and handed over to State Police officers.

  • Entry into Latvia denied to eight foreigners

At the Grebņeva, Terehova and Pāternieki border checkpoints, entry into Latvia was denied to two Russian citizens because the foreigners did not have a valid visa or residence permit, one Ukrainian citizen because the foreigner did not have a valid travel document, and two more Russian, two Belarusian and one Ukrainian citizens due to security reasons. The persons have been returned to their countries of departure.

  • Violations of residence conditions detected for three foreigners

At the Riga Airport border checkpoint, two Ukrainian and one Tajik citizens were detected who had violated the residence conditions (exceeded the visa-free period of residence, did not have a valid visa or residence permit) in the Schengen area countries. The persons have been held administratively liable.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence rules were detected for two persons – one Ukrainian and one Uzbek citizen.

For violations in the field of operation of vehicles and vessels, State Border Guard officials have held 30 individuals administratively liable or prevented them from crossing the border – seven Serbian, five Moldovan, five Belarusian, four Romanian, four Lithuanian, one Canadian, one Latvian, one Kazakh, one Uzbek and one German citizens.
