On Wednesday, March 5, 2 persons were stopped from illegally crossing the border between Latvia and Belarus, while a total – 230 persons have been stopped this year. 

A total 7 persons have been admitted for humanitarian reasons this year.

Officials of the State Border Guard detected 55 offenders at external borders and within the country. 20 trespassers were detected at external borders, including:

  • 1 foreigner with forged documents was detected

during immigration control at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one citizen of Iraq, who presented to border guards a forged Iraqi citizen passport, was detected. Criminal proceedings were initiated for the use of forged documents.

  • 1 wanted person – a citizen of Latvia was detained

during immigration control of passenger at the „Riga” Airport Border Control Point, one Latvian citizen entered from the Netherlands, who is wanted by the police, was detected. The person was detained and handed over to officials of the State Police.

  • entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to 4 foreigners

at the Grebņeva and the „Riga” Airport Border Control Points, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to two citizens of Moldova and one – of Russia, as the foreigners could not justify the purpose and conditions of their entry and stay. While at the Pāternieki Border Control Point, entry into the Republic of Latvia was refused to one citizen of Kazakhstan, as the foreigner was not in possession of valid visa or residence permit. The persons were returned to the countries of departure.

  • conditions of residence were violated by 3 foreigners

one citizen of Russia, one – of Kyrgyzstan and one – of Uzbekistan were detected at the Terehova and the Pāternieki Border Control Points, for violating the conditions of residence in the territory of the Schengen Area Countries (were not in possession of valid visa or residence permit). The persons were subjected to administrative liability.

While carrying out immigration control measures within the country, violations of entry or residence conditions were detected for 12 persons – four citizens of Belarus, three – of Ukraine, two – of Russia, one – of Latvia, one – of Estonia and one – of India.  

Within the framework of vehicle and vessel operations, 23 persons were subjected to administrative liability or were refused the right to enter the Republic of Latvia by officials of the State Border Guard of Latvia – five citizens of Belarus, four - of Latvia, three – of Serbia, two – of Kyrgyzstan, two - of Moldova, two – of Germany, one – of Russia, one – of Lithuania, one – of Azerbaijan, one – of Tajikistan and one – of Uzbekistan.
